These folks are pros, which is important when you are decidedly not a pro.
When I first showed up to pick up my pickets and 2x4s, in my little station wagon, I was sure it would fit. Well, the pickets *or* the 2x4s would fit, but not both. They cheerfully set up a new delivery for me, and at a convenient time for me. And when I asked the delivery guy for some scraps to put my stuff on for drying, he hooked up up with a few dozen old chunks of 2x4.
Fast forward six months, after I painted all the parts. I discovered I needed a couple new posts, as well. I put in a custom order for chamfered 6x6s, and they claimed they could get it done in a week.
I called up a week later, and it was done. I went down, they loaded 'em up, and when I got ready to leave, I was concerned that the top was 1"x1" rather than 2"x2". I (very politely) asked a guy in the yard, who got the manager, who came out and measured it, and showed me that it was 2"x2", just as ordered. She even let me use her measuring tape myself.
When, at this point, you might expect her to say, "Fine, now get lost, you idiot," she instead said, "Well, if you find it's the wrong size when you get home, let us know and we'll cut it off again for you."
I have purchased wood for fence projects and a large trellis here over the years. Always helpful and top quality. They made a custom gate that always earns compliments from passers by. Great spot to source quality wood.
I am landscaper local to the peninsula and SF area. I purchase all my lumber from FSI. The quality of the lumber is hard to find. Lumber is fresh, sweats when you cut into. Best of all, very little knots!
Employees are friendly and knowledgeable. From the staff at the front desk to the guys in the yard. Delivery unloading time is typically 20-40 minutes.
Last of all prices. If your a professional, you can't beat the quality for the price. I can now compete against big fencing companies because I can source lumber at a much cheaper price, WITHOUT sacrificing quality.
Heads up, if you plan to pickup lumber same day... expect to be there an hour, depending on the time of day.
