Since we established the first Genova Delicatessen in Oakland, California in 1926, our delis have been famous for our fresh bread, specialty cheeses, and the best cuts of meat, and specialty groceries. I love their ravioli! Melt in your mouth!
Pastrami on Dutch crunch bread. For not having pastrami in a long time... this sandwich hit the spot! Toppings included everything that came with it and I added avocado spread and jalapeños. Tasty, fresh and yum!
Some places are treasures which have been forgotten or ignored, or those who know keep it to themselves. Welcome to Genova! My last girlfriend is from Rome, Italy and she graciously took me there twice. Traditional, ageless cooking which is simple but takes time, patience, and care.
That is Genova. I was fortunate to be served by Janet-- who I could tell works tirelessly making sandwiches the way people ask and yet with detail and anticipatory care. She made me the best pastrami sandwich I have ever had in the last twenty years. But people who want fast food forget that to do things right -- good food takes time.
I also had the polenta and a side of the pricey but delicious lobster salad.
My only "complaint" is their no tipping policy. Janet deserves more than a compliment and a yelp review shout out. I sincerely wish management would reconsider the tipping policy. I would have gladly given $10 more for the sensational service, but it seemed that all their servers are terrific!
