Claim this ListingI have been meaning to leave a review for Gourmet Corner! I happened to stumble upon finding this cute little shop at random one afternoon when I was just wandering around the area. The street sign that was outside had caught my attention and when I had walked towards it, I found a very welcoming door that led me to a well-stocked little market filled with a lot of lovely items that I was completely unfamiliar with.
As my curiosity grew with each step I took, I was impressed by how many products and names that were completely new and foreign to me - I loved it! I was in a hurry as I already had food I had dropped off inside of my car. There were a lot of candy, sweet treats, refrigerated and frozen sections, and condiments, dried, and jared items - I found some things that I would like to try next time there is a potluck of some kind to bring as I saw pre-made platters and just a lot of things I would like to try. I left with a jar of mustard imported from Germany and came in a cool glass bottle because that was something we were in need of at home.
At checkout, the owner Ellie is a wonderful lady who was so kind. She had newly opened and we bonded over how similar our names were when we introduced ourselves. Next time I go in to visit, she'll help me shop and explain to me what is what. She had a variety of candy on the counter and sampled snacks she told me to take to try. All of the candy I tried was really good! Loved it! So excited to try more from Ellie's Gourmet Corner market!
Centrally located, albeit slightly hidden European imported goods store found right next to a sushi bar and candy store right at the center of downtown Danville near Diablo Rd and Hartz Intersection. Conveniently located right next to the Railroad Ave parking lot, now enclosed after renovations so getting to and from your car from the store will be easy.
Walking in, we were greeted by the two Mom and pop owners who allowed us to sample a good amount of their products when we were curious of what to purchase. We ended up purchasing a basket full of Polish, Ukrainian, Turkish, Russian, and Moldovan sweets. All of the sweets they recommended were quite good, and they even let us know what each would be good with (with tea, after dinner, etc).
I came by this place after getting a haircut in the area and I'm so glad I did. this is the best store for European products that I have found in this country. They have more Ukrainian products than any store I have found. The lady that was working there, Ellie, is one of the kindest and sweetest women I have ever met, not to mention she is so helpful. I have tried a number of freshly made dishes that they have in the refrigerated section and it brought back so many memories of my mom and grandma cooking traditional dishes for me growing up. Friendly and welcoming environment. I will be back time and time again.
