The Steven Kent Winery was started in 1996 with one mission: to make Cabernet here in the Livermore Valley that rivals in quality the greatest red wines made anywhere in the world.
By the turn of the last century, Livermore Valley was already far ahead of its Napa Valley neighbor in specializing in the Bordeaux varieties. Our goal at Steven Kent is to carry on that tradition.
The wine from this winery was superb! My friends and I tried a flight of wines and we were very impressed. I would highly recommend the Lineage wines, they were very nice on the palette. There's also bread sticks available!
The staff here was knowledgeable and friendly, we had a stellar experience. Being that it was a very hot summer day, I appreciated being able to sit inside with the AC on. There is also seating outside.
We look forward to returning sometime soon!
Up from the cellar we have, a 2019 L'autre Côte. 100% Cab franc, all Livermore Valley.
Deep Ruby color with a cool mauve to pink variation. The nose seems primary at first with the earthy notes that I'd expect from a cab franc, but on the palate is more vinous. Not overly oaked, but just enough to gracefully balance acidity and it's black fruit profile. Don't change the recipe guys. It's a good one.
First visit to SKW (now known as The Lineage Collection) since the Covid shutdown. The wines are spectacular. Steven's wines have always been the best in Livermore and his Lineage has been among the best California wines anywhere in the state (and yes, I'm aware Napa is in California) but he's truly taken his craft to the next level. We had the premium tasting which consisted of four gems, starting with the L'Autre Cote cabernet franc. Steven Kent Mirrasou is a cab franc zealot (he calls it "the sexiest grape") and this wine is a spectacular example of what cab franc can be. This was followed by two cabernets including his spectacular Premier cab. The tasting finished with the Lineage Bordeaux Blend that routinely scores in the very high 90s with anyone who has reviewed it.
This is next level stuff. If you're tasting in Livermore (and you should), start here.
