I made the mistake of first going with the company that mails you water heater emergency repair stickers. They charged me a $200 service fee and $200 for a new thermo couple. When the thermo couple failed to solve my water heater issue, they wouldn't come out unless it was for the new water heater and they would need to send 2 people. At least they refunded the cost of the Thermo couple. I decided to go with Water Heaters Masters instead and their technician came out the next morning and he single-handedly did everything from draining out the old water heater and removing and installing a new water-heater (flight of stairs and he didn't even mar the walls). My previous water heater from 12 years ago needed 2 people too and they had complained that my stairwell and placement of the water heater wasn't fun.

So, all said, Water Heaters Masters was the place I should have contacted first. So glad they did the job well.

Saturday morning, I got a notification from my Flume water sensor that there was a leak, about 5 gals/hour. Checked everything, and finally noticed water draining from our utility room, and it was from the pan under the hot water heater. I determined that it was the tank, and the heater was 10 years old, so I called the company that installed it originally, to see about getting a new one. They promised someone would call me back, since they were basically closed. Well, they didn't call back until 5, and told me to call the office Monday morning to schedule service. The price for weekends was very high, and the price for weekdays was only fairly high.

So, Sunday I contacted a couple of businesses on Yelp to try to get estimates. Nobody wanted to give much of an estimate. Water Heaters Masters said they could come out midday to give an estimate, and another company could come out later, and do the work if I wanted. They gave me a ballpark estimate, but when Ed Lopez from Water Heaters Masters showed up, he gave me a lower price, and said he could do it that day, no extra charge for Sundays.

So I'm now up and running with hot water. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. Considering it was about 95 degrees, quick was something special. But he also did very neat work, something I appreciate as a DIY person. He did a better job than the previous installer, who was much more expensive, plus he said they usually can do same-day service if it needs it.

I noticed standing water in the drip pan of my 13 year old 50 gal "State" water heater. This was due to a leak. While this wasn't necessarily an emergency, Water Heater Masters was one of the few plumbers that were open on a Saturday. I contacted them first thing in the morning and they were able to send Jason to install a new Bradford White 50 gal gas tank water heater. The installation went smoothly and the new water heater is slightly more efficient than my previous one.
