Brightworks and Tinkering School were shining examples of what makes child-centric learning transformative, in spite of the pandemic. Faced with so many challenges, it would have been easy to just do the bare minimum and wait for better days, but instead, across every program we saw innovation. From the engaging tinkering kits we sent home with every student, to the development of entirely new kinds of distance learning like the Mars Project – which connected summer camp kids to robots in a scale model of a lava tube – our staff created ways to keep students engaged and motivated. Our work in these programs stands out against the backdrop of incremental change in education as an example of what can be done. Our explorations have had an incredible impact on the lives of children around the world, who have been inspired to ask questions, build new skills, and believe more in their own abilities. We have inspired educators through our Curious Educators Program to make bold moves in their own practice, changing the way children experience learning. Together we are re-imagining education and testing those ideas, we are acting as an engine of creativity. Broadway Children's School of Oakland is a diverse, play based community preschool located in the Adams Point neighborhood in Oakland, CA. We began in 1952 on Broadway in downtown Oakland. In 1984, our school moved to the little yellow house on Adams Street. For nearly 70 years, families have joined the Broadway community through the PACT (Parents And Children Together) program and the nursery school programs. Given the changing needs of our children and world, it becomes imperative to re-examine everything we previously assumed about education. Where once schools and parents had similar goals and expectations for children, today parents’ hopes and priorities for their children have moved beyond the child “getting the right job” to achieving an overall high quality of life. Witnessing the growing concern of children who are ill-equipped for learning intersect with the traditional education system which has become overwhelmed and unable to adapt, a bold response is indeed required. Caulbridge education began as a desire to step back, and to answer the more fundamental questions: “What is an ideal education for our time, for the children before us today? How can we break the cycle of dysfunction? Could we start with an intention to raise happy, healthy children?” Finding the answer to these questions within both, current research and collective wisdom, we opened our first school in Marin, California as part of a larger social mission to build a network of Caulbridge Schools. Specialties Note: Cita Education specializes in SAT, Math, Physics, and mindfulness. For SAT we designed a very student centered curriculum that incorporate efficient, effective, and fun learning strategies to help students retain the materials. We also make sure that students enjoy learning at Cita. We managed to make students improve and create sweet memories at Cita. Mindfulness sessions are also incorporated to help students concentrate, relax, and hence become better test takers. We are very good in helping students who are not keen on Math and Physics, and in helping students who already have a good foundation to go even further. We accomplish this by giving the students a solid foundation, making the subjects relevant and interesting. For Mindfulness, we use a very comprehensive, structured and secular curriculum.
