We also prepare academically for Kindergarten, particularly in our 4 – 5 year old classes, which is when we consider the children are ready, developmentally. We introduce a writing program (Handwriting Without Tears, about 10 minutes a day), a pre-reading program (Zoophonics), and a more formal social and emotional curriculum (Second Step). Even in the 4 – 5 year old classes we leave plenty of time for free play, both inside and outside class, so children can continue to develop their play skills and creativity before they settle into the more academic culture of elementary school and beyond. Opportunities are provided daily to develop large and fine motor skills, music awareness and artistic expression, and math and science activities in a developmentally appropriate atmosphere. Our program also includes a spiritual element. We welcome children of all faith to St. Clare’s so we keep a light touch on this part of our program. We talk to the children about God loving us all, about prayer for those we love, we tell some simple bible stories and sing a song and do a dance. This all takes place on Wednesday morning (for about 20 minutes) in our Church which is right alongside the Preschool. We take the children into the Church because we want them to learn that we behave differently in a holy place, than we do in class or on the playground. Mobility Matters is facilitating collaboration and coordination between public and private transportation providers, creating a network of integrated options that primarily address the mobility needs of seniors, individuals with disabilities, and low-income individuals. Home Consignment Center remains a two family owned and run business. In the spring of 1994 Christine and Johnny Crowell were considering opening a furniture store patterned on Johnny’s successful antique auto consignment business. Jamece and John Fondnazio joined them forming a partnership that has lasted for twenty plus years. The partners had a business plan that promoted high quality furniture and accessories priced to sell from the outset. The partners rejected the traditional consignment approach of initial overpricing coupled with automatic markdowns. Home Consignment Center was built on the concept of great stuff at great prices, and it’s a fun place to shop. That first year was exciting, if exhausting. The partners worked every day and without employees. This allowed them to learn every aspect of the business, first hand. When the first employees were hired HCC initiated its policy of no commission salespeople. HCC shares it’s profits with its employees, monthly, through a store bonus system that recognizes that there are many components to success. HCC has been lucky in having great employees many of who treat the stores as if they were their own business. Based on the great support from the community surrounding the first store in Danville, HCC has continued to grow, adding 14 additional locations in California and Texas. Family owned and operated since 2000 The First Street Alehouse wants to be your home away from home. Inspired by two brothers who wanted to bring a small slice of Chico to their new home town, the Alehouse provides an upbeat, social atmosphere while fostering a strong sense of community. It has been said that you may walk in the door not knowing anyone but you are sure to walk out the door with a few more friends. A lot has happened since we opened in 2000. After a tremendous amount of community support, the Alehouse successfully transitioned to their new larger location in April of 2010. This has allowed them to better serve their guests. Now home to the largest publicly displayed beer can collection, housing over 6000 cans, the decor has changed but the feeling has not. A marriage, two kids and two dogs later these brothers continue to have the same vision for their business; provide quality food and beverages for a fair price, and treat everyone who walks in the door like they’re family. As you look around the Alehouse you will undoubtedly notice the stunning woodwork and incredible atmosphere, but if you look a bit closer you will see the subtle hints of a family. The hostess stand is lined with pictures of their kids, the family tricycle is hung from the rafters and their son’s footprints are set in the concrete as a reminder that they are all in this together. Set one foot in the door and it is obvious that people love being at the Alehouse. Guests sit conversing while enjoying great food and typically a frosty beverage, or two, but what stands out the most is the positivity and friendliness of the staff. The owners pride themselves on treating others like they would like to be treated and this policy is clearly visible when it comes to their staff benefits.
